Creating a Feedback Survey with Google Forms

On the Let’s Camp platform, guests automatically receive a thank you email on the day of their checkout. This is the perfect opportunity to ask your camper how their stay was and get some feedback.

Most campgrounds however, don’t take advantage of this. The feedback you could be  receiving could be just what you need to help your park grow and improve the enjoyment for future guests.

One reason campgrounds don’t add a survey to their thank you email is because they don’t know how to create one.

How to Create a Survey Using Google

Step 1: Create the Form

  1. Go to forms.google.com (or, from Google Drive, click New > More > Google Forms).
  2. Click the plus (+) tile labeled “Blank form” to start a new, empty survey.
Create Google Form

Google opens a new untitled form with one placeholder question, ready to be customized.

Step 2: Name the Form and Add a Description

  1. Click the title field at the top (“Untitled form”) and type a name for the survey, such as “Customer Satisfaction Survey.”
  2. Click “Form description” just below the title and add a sentence or two telling respondents what the survey is for.

Step 3: Add and Configure Questions

Every question box has a field for the question text and a dropdown on the right for the question type. Click that dropdown to see all the available formats

The most commonly used types, and when to reach for each one, are:

  • Short answer — a single-line response, good for names, emails, or short facts.
  • Paragraph — a multi-line text box for longer, open-ended feedback.
  • Multiple choice — respondents pick exactly one option from a list of radio buttons.
  • Checkboxes — respondents can select any number of options that apply.
  • Dropdown — the same single-choice behavior as multiple choice, presented as a compact dropdown menu (useful for long lists of options).
  • Linear scale — a numbered scale (for example 1 to 5) with optional labels at each end, ideal for rating questions.
  • Date / Time — a calendar or time picker for scheduling-related questions.
  • Other formats available include Rating (stars), File upload, Multiple choice grid, and Checkbox grid, for more specialized surveys.

Short Answer and Paragraph

Type the question into the question field, then choose “Short answer” for brief responses or “Paragraph” for longer ones. No further setup is required — respondents simply type their answer into the box that appears.

Multiple Choice and Checkboxes

Choose “Multiple choice” or “Checkboxes” from the type menu, then click into “Option 1” and type the first answer choice. Click “Add option” to add each additional choice. Use “add ‘Other'” if respondents should be able to write in something not on the list.

Dropdown and Linear Scale

Dropdown questions are built the same way as multiple choice — add options one at a time — but they display as a compact menu instead of a list of buttons. For a Linear scale question, set the number range (for example 1 to 5) and optionally add a label at each end, such as “Not likely” and “Very likely,” to make the scale easier to interpret.

Date Questions

Selecting “Date” swaps the answer field for a calendar-style date picker, which keeps responses in a consistent format for later analysis.

To add another question, click the plus (+) button in the floating toolbar on the right side of the form editor. Toggle “Required” at the bottom of any question if respondents must answer it before submitting.

Step 4: Share the Form to Collect Responses

  1. Click “Publish” (or “Send”) in the top-right corner of the editor. You’ll want to copy the Responder link to add this to your Thank You email in Let’s Camp.
  2. Under “Responders,” confirm who can fill out the form — “Anyone with the link” is the most common setting for an open survey.
  3. Click “Copy responder link” to copy a shareable URL, then paste it into an email, chat message, or social post.
Publish Survey

Anyone who opens that link sees a clean, public-facing version of the form and can submit a response without needing a Google account (unless access has been restricted).

Step 5: View the Results

  1. Open the form in the editor and click the “Responses” tab at the top.
  2. The “Summary” view shows a running total of responses along with an auto-generated chart for each question — pie charts for multiple choice, bar charts for checkboxes, and so on.
  3. Click “Question” to page through results one question at a time, or “Individual” to see every answer a single respondent submitted.
  4. Click the green “Link to Sheets” icon to send all responses to a Google Sheets spreadsheet, which updates automatically as new responses arrive.

That covers the full loop: 1. build the form, 2. add whichever question types fit the survey, 3. share the link, and 4. check back on the Responses tab to see what came in.
