Product Types & Categories
How to Create Product Types and Product Categories in Let’s Camp
Before getting started, it’s important to know the differences between a Product Type and a Product Category.
- Product Type: is the main category — the broad grouping for something you sell, like Candy, Chips, Shirts, or Fire.
- Product Category: is the subcategory that lives under a product type.
Getting Started:
- Go to Settings, located on the left-hand side.
- Click into Rules, Products, and Fees, also on the left-hand side.
- Select Product Types. You can access this either through the path above or directly under Rules, Products, and Fees.
Once you’re in the Product Types section, you’ll see any product types you’ve already created.
Creating a New Product Type
A product type is essentially a main category that you’ll use to organize anything you sell through your point of sale.
To create one:
- Click Create Product Type in the top right corner.
- Enter a name for your product type. For example, let’s create one called Candy.
- Click Save Changes.
Once saved, you’ll notice a + Category option appear in the action items. This is where you’ll add subcategories under your new product type.
Adding Product Categories
Categories are the subcategories that live under a product type. To continue with our example:
- Click + Category under Candy.
- Add specific candy types you carry, such as Smarties or Lollipops.
- Save each one as you go.
You can subcategorize as much or as little as makes sense for your campground. For example:
- Under Chips, you might have subcategories like Cheetos, Doritos, and Pringles.
- Under Chocolates, you’d list the different chocolate varieties you carry.
- Under Shirts, you could break things down by color or size.
- Under Fire, you might include a fire starter kit, firewood, and other fire-related items.
Product Types vs. Product Categories
To sum it up:
- Product Type = the main category (e.g., Candy, Chips, Shirts, Fire)
- Product Category = the subcategories that fall under each product type (e.g., Smarties and Lollipops under Candy)
You can fully customize this structure to fit your campgrounds needs.
